Winning begins with giving

Image
Giving has always brought out the best in people. No one in the history has become a poor after helping or supporting the society. James Bender, in his book How to Talk Well(New York: McGraw-Hill Book Company, Inc., 1994) relates the story of a farmer who grew award-winning corn. Each year he entered his corn in the state fair where it won a blue ribbon. One year a newspaper reporter interviewed him and learned something interesting about how he grew it. The reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seed corn with his neighbors. "How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbors when they are entering corn in competition with yours each year?" the reporter asked. "Why sir," said the farmer, "didn't you know? The wind picks up pollen from the ripening corn and swirls it from field to field. If my neighbors grow inferior corn, cross-pollination will steadily degrade the quality of my corn. If I am to grow good corn, I mu...

Rewards are multiplied in these 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah

Image
Welcome to the month of Dhul-Hijjah 1439H Praise be to Allah Who has created Time and has made some times like months or days and nights better than others, when rewards are multiplied many times, as a mercy towards His slaves. Imagine, you find a SALE with crazy price of your favorite stuff in a store, and you know that it rarely happens. But you also know that it lasts only for an hour while the store limits the number of the stuff you've been looking for. What are you gonna do? It's very little chance that you're gonna ignore that sale, isn't it? So what are we gonna do knowing that we are entering the month of Dhul-Hijjah, one of four sacred months in islam in which Rewards are multiplied for people who collect good deeds at the moment? Absolutely as a Muslim we would make sure that we don't miss any of these important occasion, because time is passing quickly. And among the special seasons of worship are the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, whic...

Ushul : Sesuatu yang selainnya terbangun di atasnya a.k.a. Dasar / Pondasi Far’u : Sesuatu yang dibangun di atas selainnya a.k.a.

How much does $1 mean for you?

Image
$1 might get you a can of coke in the US, a cone of ice cream in Croatia, or a sausage roll in Australia. But in developing countries, $1 goes further than that. For instance, in Indonesia, $40 could feed a family for a month, it means $1.5 per day! . That's very small amount compared to the US per capita expenditure a day. So you might want to try to have coke diet days and help many people with the dollars you've saved. It may only mean a sugar free days or a decrease in the risk of obesity to you, but for the needy, it would be a meaningful relief. . And as we've been taught, there's no insignificant deed in Islam Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “Do good deeds properly, sincerely and moderately and know that your deeds will not make you enter Paradise, and that the most beloved deed to Allah is the most regular and constant even if it were little.” Al-Bukhari So, Small things aren't small at all in the Islamic point of view. In fact, it's bigger than ...

Pursuit of happiness

Today, like yesterday, we are happy when our needs and desires are fulfilled. So the pursuit of happiness has become connected to what might be termed as “selfish” behavior. The more we have the more content we are, the more we take the happier we will be. But is that so? As a Muslim we know the fact that our Prophet, Muhammad (peace be upon him) was the happiest man that had ever lived on earth. We know it for sure from the history of his noble life that is written in the Qur'an, or in the Hadeeth, or in books of tareekh written by the Islamic scholars. How did our Prophet live his life? Rasulullah ﷺ was known for his generosity even before Prophethood. When he received his first revelation, he rushed home shaken by the experience. Khadijah radiyallahu ‘anha, may Allah be pleased with her, reminded and relieved him by testifying, “Allah would never humiliate you, for you are good to your relatives, you are true to your word, you help those wh...
