The Currency of The Hereafter

As a Muslim, we surely believe in the Hereafter or Day of Judgment. We believe that our life in this world is only a temporary transit and Akhirah is the eternal Home. Paradise is the finish line for the believers and Hell is for the disbelievers. Everyone wants Paradise. But the journey to get there won't be easy as the Quran and hadith told us about.

'The Day of Judgment' posseses several names. Allah had named that day with more than 30 names in the Qur’an. One of them is Yawmul-Hisaab [the Day of Account] (Surah Saad 38:16). On that day, our deeds will be held accountable.

“And the record [of deeds] will be placed [open], and you will see the criminals fearful of that within it and they will say, "Oh, woe to us! What is this book that leaves nothing small or great except that it has enumerated it?" And they will find what they did present [before them]. And your Lord does injustice to no one.” (Al Kahfi: 49)

People would regret all the bad things they had done in the Dunya while they got zero chance to go back to correct their mistakes. So, they would be responsible for their bad deeds in the Hereafter. But their shroud has no pocket. They couldn't bring their wealth and property they had collected in the Dunya to the Hereafter. On that day, neither money nor credit card would be useful to repay people they've wronged for that day is Yawmul-Laa Bay’un Feehi wa Laa Khilaal [the Day on which there will be no mutual bargaining nor befriending] (Ibrahim: 31). The only currency valid on that day is their deeds.

Abu Hurayrah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said,
"... so his good deeds would be credited to the account of those (who suffered at his hand). If his good deeds fall short to clear the account, their sins would be entered in his account and he would be thrown in the (Hell) Fire."
[Muslim]

So, what should we do with our limited time in this Dunya while the Promised day is very near? What have we prepared to face the Day of the Account?

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said,

"When a man dies, then it is cut off all his deeds except for three things: ongoing charity (Sadaqa Jariyah/Waqf), useful knowledge that they taught, and a righteous child that prays for him." [Muslim]

"Today is the day of deeds and there's no account. And tomorrow is the day of account and there wouldn't be deeds." [Bukhari]
